Dr. Thomas Delbanco

When Things Go Wrong:
Dilemmas for Patients, Families and Clinicians

Tom Delbanco, M.D., a practicing internist based at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston,is the Richard and Florence Koplow–James Tullis Professor of General Medicine and Primary Care, Harvard Medical School. He was the founding Chair of the Picker Institutes in the United States and Europe, organizations that document patient experiences with care and work with patients to improve health services.


Dr. Delbanco is the author of numerous scholarly papers and has coedited three books, including Through the Patients' Eyes. He was featured in Bill Moyers's television series and book Healing and the Mind, and is the writer and director of the powerful new film When Things Go Wrong: Voices of Patients and Families, which examines medical error from the patient perspective.
